Fire Protection Systems

Overview

Per the adopted Fire Code, required and nonrequired fire protection systems requires a permit from the Fire District. In addition, all fire protection systems are required to be inspected, tested, and maintained following National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards. The Fire District is authorized to recieve and review service reports on the inspection, testing, and maintenance of any fire protection system within jurisdiction. In addition, any modification to any existing fire protection systems shall require a permit from the Fire District. 

 

Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (ITM)

Per adopted Fire Code and following NFPA standards, all fire protection systems shall be inspected, tested, and maintained. For fire sprinkler and alarm systems, this typically means an annual service. Please see schedule below for more details. 

Per adopted Fire Code, NFPA standards, and the Nevada State Fire Marshal, inspection, testing and maintenance of any fire protection system shall be performed by a qualified professional i.e. a company and technician licensed with the Nevada State Fire Marshal.

In addition, the Fire District requires fire protection service reports of any inspection, testing, and maintenance to be submitted to the Fire District to ensure compliance. Service reports must be submitted to the District’s third party provider, The Compliance Engine.

ITM Schedule 

Required servicing schedule, per adopted Fire Code and Nevada Revised Statute:

  1. Fire sprinklers and fire alarm systems shall be annually serviced. 
  1. Private fire hydrants shall be annually serviced
  1. Hood suppression systems shall be bi-annually serviced.  
  1. Commercial exhaust hoods shall be serviced 1-12 months  
    • Please review the adopted Fire Code or reach out to the Fire Inspector to verify required servicing schedule.  
  1. Fire extinguishers shall be serviced annually.  
  1. Fire pumps shall be serviced annually.   
    • Please review the appropriate NFPA standard for specific inspection frequencies.  
  1. Clean agent suppression systems shall be serviced annually.  

 

Installing, Modifying, Altering, Extending any Fire Protection System

Per the adopted Fire Code, fire protection systems shall not be installed without a written permit from the Fire District, including monitored fire alarm systems.

As defined by the adopted Fire Code, a monitored fire alarm system is any system that automatically dispatches the Fire District for a smoke or fire signal. 

Per the adopted Fire Code, existing fire protection systems shall not be removed or modified without a written permit from the Fire District.
